Fortigate is a Next Generation Firewall. NGFW is a new concept of firewall that operates at layer 7 and comes with additional features compared to the traditional model, such as iptables and pfsense (operating at layer 3). Additionally, they are capable of using external intelligence to gather information on how to protect the network.
INET is an Open Source solution that uses pfSense, based on the FreeBSD operating system and configured to take on the role of a firewall and / or network router. It also serves services such as distribution of IPs on the network, name resolution, VPN, among others.
The NPS is Microsoft's implementation of the RADIUS standard specified by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) in RFCs 2865 and 2866.
